There is no doubt that the Internet has changed the way many of us live our daily lives. In fact, the Internet has even changed the way we look for an apartment. In the olden days, we would set out on foot in whatever neighborhood we wanted to live in and simply walk around. Now, there are a plethora of websites we can use to help find just the right place. Here are a few helpful tips for finding the best apartment you can from the comfort of your own living room.
Go local
We all know about the big, national apartment hunting websites. Many of them advertise on television and have become household names. These sites can be a bit help, but don’t forsake the local sites, either. Often times, the city newspaper will help to run a want ads/real estate website made just for that particular city. You’ll find hundreds of listings here that aren’t posted anywhere else. The sites may not be as slick or as polished as the national ones, but they can point you in the right direction.
Trust your fellow man
One new feature sprouting up on many apartment hunting websites is a feedback feature. It allows renters and former renters to comment on a particular complex they might have lived in. In many cases, this feedback can provide a remarkable amount of insight into a building or an ownership group. Remember, however, that every building is going to have at least a handful of unhappy customers. The real issues begin when all of the feedback is negative or bordering on threatening. You can save yourself a horrible living experience by simply crossing these places off of your list before you even start. Trust in your fellow renters to lead you in the right direction.
